A couple weeks ago we got the shocking news that the Revue was slated to be closed. I say shocking because this is our neighbourhood theatre. It's a part of the Roncesvalles streetscape and the oldest running theatre in Ontario, if not Canada. I try to go a few times a month and have even started taking Matthew to movies (a lifelong wish).

Luckily (and as was expected) someone took charge and organized a petition which you can sign here. As one who's discovered the ability to write your councillors and other such politicians, I've also signed letters to our Councillor and Mayor. But even then, it didn't feel like enough; you got that sense that you'd done your part and later, after it's all gone, you would sit there and talk about what a shame it all was. So, I attended the community meeting at Matthew's school. There, the current owners showed up, dismissing several rumours and clearing the air. They plan to lease the building to someone who will keep it as a theatre and that, in itself, could be a good or bad thing, depending on who leases it. There are currently two offers, one better than the other. Also in the works is the proposition of deeming the building a historical site.

I plan to keep involved and will offer my services in advertising and marketing. There's another meeting next week which I've agreed to attend. For those who are interested, rest assured that I'll keep you posted. If you haven't signed the petition, please do, whether you live here or not. We need to keep places like this for our communities.
