An internet connection! A dodgy one, but a connection nonetheless. I realize it's been a few days since we've connected but rest assured, we're still here! We've just stopped at Mollyocket's in Woodstock, ME. The kids are off with Jennifer to look for minerals at a "dig" next door while I get caught up with my email and write this entry.
We woke up yesterday, in PEI, to the first sunny morning of the entire week. Figures, doesn’t it? While we packed the van, Matthew and Marina played in the dunes as much as they could before it was time to go. David, Nat and the kids were the first to go and shortly thereafter, we were on the road heading East. Marina was particularly quiet and Matthew kept to his book.

The drive was pretty uneventful and we made our way to Hopewell Rocks, NB shortly after 1:30. Although we parked and walked up to the gate, we decided to forgo the visit because of the time; we’d arrived at high tide and it would be another 8 hours before we could see low tide and walk among the flowerpots. We’ll have to plan better for next year. Instead, we kept the $24 admission for lunch and wound our way to Cape Enrage. The drive there, in itself, was very enjoyable offering wonderful views of the Fundy filling up. We stopped a few times (with camera in hand) to check out the water rushing in (it was rushing the other way when we went by a second time).
Cape Enrage is apparently an island. On the 3rd day of a full moon, the tide breaks over the road leading up to the lighthouse and floods the marshland behind it. Yesterday was the first day after the full moon so the road was open. Our first stop was the Cape House restaurant for lunch. It was a little pricey (and a bit posh for parents with kids), but the view was spectacular looking across the Fundy to Nova Scotia. After lunch, we walked up to the lighthouse to take in a breathtaking view and then trekked down to the water beside sheer cliffs of stone. We finished our trip to Cape Enrage with a visit to the gift shop before setting off.

We later stopped in the small town of Alma, a quaint and popular place, before driving through the Fundy National Park which was quite lovely. Every so often the smell of balsam fir would waft through the car so strongly that if you closed your eyes, you’d think you were in Vermont. Eventually, we arrived at the Pine Cone Motel, our last stop of the day. We settled into bed and watched TV. I toyed with the idea of writing a blog post but was just too tired to do so.
This morning we were up and gone by 7:30, stopping at a Tim Hortons for some breakfast. The rest of the day was spent driving to where we are now. It was an uneventful day with a horrid stop at a Friendly’s for lunch. Suffice it to say, we will never eat there again.
Tomorrow is our last full day away from home. We head to Tupper Lake with planned stops in Montpelier and Saranac Lake for dinner.
Beautiful photos as usual and good descriptions of the scenery, be careful out there, have fun and safe trip back home.
