Pensively Marina | captured on September 11, 2011
I'm sure there will a be lot written today, on the anniversary of 9/11, but that's not why I've felt compelled to write something myself. In addition to the relief of hearing of young Kienan Hebert's return to his family, I watched a documentary which chronicled what transpired in New York in real-time, using video and audio gathered from a variety of sources. No dramatic music, no narration, no flashy graphics; just the horror of what happened, unfolding over two hours. It was eerie, to say the least, to watch this a second time; every minute reminding me of the emotions and conversations that took place in my office as we sat stunned around our computers. I still remember the peaceful calm of the streetcar ride home; the skies quiet and devoid of aircraft, but filled with migrating monarch butterflies.
While we were eating dinner this evening, it occured to me that Marina wasn't even born in 2001. Matthew himself had just turned 7 months old. Watching the documentary, moved by people's shock and disbelief, it crossed my mind that many New Yorkers must have felt like the world could never again bear any beauty.
Of course, time does heal. Our beautiful daughter—and many more beautiful children—was born just three years after 9/11. Her love for life, animals and the people around her is so abundant, one can't help but feel hopeful for the future of us all.
Our little girl is really growing up.....too fast. A beautiful photo - like this one very much.

What a lovely photo of a beautiful young girl, it is because of these beauties that the world keeps going, no matter what happens, there will always be hope for the future, the ugly will fade in the night.
